Successful launch of Interclue to the mainstream Firefox audience

June 26th, 2007 by seth

Interclue is live on addons.mozilla.org

Interclue went live to the public on a.m.o for the first time this weekend and has had over 2000 downloads from there in the first few days. That puts us into the top 10% of firefox addons by weekly download count.

Our official download/install page for Firefox is now https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4999 and future updates will also be made from that location.

Initial reviews posted by the Mozilla community during the “sandbox” review process were highly encouraging, and no doubt contributed to our download count. Here are a few we’re particularly proud of:

This one is a keeper!

I have to agree with the reviews below - pain free and very useful. Installed on Vista (v.1.1.1, now 1.1.2.4064). Had Cooliris before that but Interclue gives a lot more useful info as others have mentioned already, has more options and so far i have no problems, smooth. Have to add that support is excellent too - the author(-s) is responsive and a pleasure to deal with. Never thought i’d be interested in this kind of extension but suddenly i see this one as a keeper along with my everyday/version/profile standbys. Good job!

Way better than expected

I’d tried CoolIris and uninstalled it pretty quickly, couldn’t live with it. I expected Interclue to be as awkward in its own way, but I can see where the work has gone in on the UI and added-value. Definitely a keeper. Best features: Its ability to get at the important page content so reliably from a range of sites and pages. No resources spent on hints for navigation links. Would like to see: Faster preview fetching, always. But it’s pretty good already. I’m using 1.1.2. It installed seamlessly and works fine on my Firefox 2.0.0.4/XP.

Works as advertised!

I was using a different preview addon until I discovered this one. For what I do, I don’t need to see what a page I’m previewing looks like. I need to know it’s content. This addon does that beautifully with a bucketful of options and information you can include or exclude. If you use any preview addon, give this one a look.

Linkclue Positioning Issue in 1.1.2

We are aware of an issue regarding the placement of Linkclues on some pages in the new 1.1.2 release, and expect to have this resolved in the next version, which will be posted as an update for all existing users.

Try the latest version from addons.mozilla.org

I’d love to just give you the URL, but we still haven’t made it out of the Sandbox area, so it’s a bit more complicated - you have to log in first. This is partly because we haven’t got enough user reviews yet. Apparently the glowing soundbites from reputable pundits on our news page failed to satisfy the user review requirement, because they’re really more interested in people saying things like “I’ve been using it for a couple days on Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Debian Etch on a 4ghz dual core box with a fast fibre connection at work and I haven’t noticed any significant problems. I haven’t played with all the options but the ones I did use seemed to work as advertised. Not as fast on my old pentium II at home, but it’s still usable and stable.” - or even more detail if possible. I guess that’s fair enough. They run through their own more detailed review process after seeing what people have to say, of course. I’m hoping it won’t take too long.

I’m also hoping once you’ve seen the size of the changelog blow you’ll be itching to try out 1.1.2 and willing to spend a few minutes to follow these steps:

1) Go to http://addons.mozilla.org
2) Near the top right, click “register”.
3) Fill in the registration details. It will email you a confirmation email
4) After confirming and logging in again, click on “My Account” at top right
5) Then check the checkbox that says “Show Sandbox” and hit Save.
6) You will now be able to reach the addon at this URL: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4999

I posted about it over at mozillazine hoping to find folks who already had a sandbox account, and they’ve kept us busy for a bit fixing up a few things that weren’t so much buggy as jarring and non-obvious. I’ll make another post here tomorrow with screenshots explaining the changes.

For now, here’s the complete changelog since 1.0.2, which is the version downloadable from this site. Hopefully it’ll be enough to interest you enough to follow the steps above and download it from the sandbox, and after using it for a bit you’ll be in a position to leave a review over there, so that the editors will be in a better position to approve it into the public area of addons.mozilla.org
